Community

This CHOOSEDAY is all about community! I find that it’s so important to be part of at least one community. So what actually is a community? Google tells us it “is a group of people connected by a shared characteristic, which can be a location, common interests, values, culture, or identity”. So that means there are different types of communities. A geographical community, for example, a village community. Communities of interest which is where people have a common hobby, like my drumming circles. Virtual communities, for example, in the gaming world where you can team up with anybody anywhere in the world and have your community.

But why is it so important to be part of a community? Communities often bring a sense of belonging and purpose. That we have a connection to something that is much bigger than just ourselves. Friendships and relationships are formed in communities that we perhaps thought we might never have. It’s an opportunity to gather with like-minded people and that also gives us a sense of identity. And the great thing about communities is that they never stand still. They are always evolving. Some people will leave your community and new people will come to your community. And for me that is the beauty of them. And we can be part of more than one community which will only increase our confidence, self-esteem, and sense of purpose and belonging.

Community is not to be confused with your tribe however! Although members of your tribe are likely to be part of a community that you are part of too! 🐉💚
