This CHOOSEDAY is all about rainbows!!
When I looked up what a rainbow actually is, I was a bit baffled by science, but a layman’s explanation is that a rainbow is a multicolored arc made by light striking water droplets. The most familiar type rainbow is produced when sunlight strikes raindrops in front of a viewer at a precise angle (42 degrees). Rainbows can also be viewed around fog, sea spray, or waterfalls. Thank you National Geographic!!
But rainbows are so much more than the science aren’t they? They symbolise so much to so many…
To some rainbows mean good luck, blessings, or new beginnings. They bring a promise of protection. A symbol of love and acceptance, and joy and happiness. Rainbows are also a representation of a bridge between heaven and earth, and in Norse and Native American traditions they are bridges for the Gods and spirits and ancestors to travel between the realms. But, for me, the best one, is that rainbows are a symbol of hope. A ray of light in an often stormy sky. A realisation that the sun does always shine and that there is beauty and positivity in every moment, no matter how dark that moment may be!
