Samaritans 24/7

This CHOOSEDAY is all about the Samaritans. The Samaritans, according to their own website, is “the charity that prevents suicide through the power of human connection. Connecting people in crisis with trained volunteers who will always listen people calling for change with those who need to listen people who've been there before with those struggling now”. On Thursday it will be Samaritans awareness day. The day is also referred to as 24/7. It is a day to remind people that the Samaritans are available 24/7 for anyone who needs someone to listen. The Samaritans also run a “talk to us” campaign in July to coincide with the awareness day. Its purpose is to raise awareness about the importance of talking about mental health and to encourage people to reach out for support. It doesn't matter what you're going through the Samaritans will face it with you. Even if you don't want to phone them you can send them an e-mail or even write them a letter. Sometimes writing things down can help you better understand them, especially when a phone call seems daunting. So whatever you're going through, know that you don't have to do it alone. If you feel that you can't reach out to your friends or family, you can get in touch with the Samaritans at any time of the day or night knowing that someone is always there to listen.
