Strength

This CHOOSEDAY Is about strength. When we think about strength , it is usually physical strength that springs to mind. We don’t really talk about emotional strength, as this is often confused with courage! Strength is what we use to meet the obstacles that we face head on, and keep going through them. It is, in a way, responding to a tenable emotion in a more transparent and open way and giving ourselves permission to feel vulnerable without crumbling. Emotional strength is our resilience. It gives us the ability to be more adaptable to change whilst retaining kindness. To recognise our own needs and wants without ego. To focus on road ahead rather than the speed bumps in front of us; the bigger picture. Strength gives us freedom. Not only from the shackles of doubt and fear, but even from ourselves!

So how do we get this strength I hear you ask? Well… Unfortunately, it does not come in bottles and does require some work. But it’s worth it!! We can practice mindfulness, set new goals, focus on ourselves. However, we also have to hold ourselves accountable so that we can build on our foundation. But mostly, we have to allow ourselves, and give ourselves permission to be wrong from time to time!! No one is perfect, despite what their facebook is telling us, and we all make mistakes. Some of us more than others!! But this is how we increase our awareness and resilience grow stronger.

To finish today’s CHOOSEDAY, I would like to use the words of a man whom I admire a great deal. In my eyes, he is the epitome of strength. He demonstrated huge amounts of physical strength during his rugby career, and infinite amounts of emotional strength following his MND diagnosis in 2019. A legend (especially if you’re a Rhino’s fan 🦏) who battled the unknown for four and a half years, Rob Burrow…

“Every single day is precious. Don’t waste a moment. In a world full of adversity we must still dare to dream”
